The New Issue of Black Oak Presents is Here!

I am proud to announce that the brand new issue of Black Oak Presents, our quarterly journal devoted to Middle-American art and culture and American social critique, is now available for download.  Simply right-click on the adjacent cover to view or download the new issue.
In our Summer 2009 issue, Black Oak Presents brings you an exclusive interview with Hart D. Fisher, the scariest man in America and mastermind behind American Horrors. Hart shares his gripping story from controversial indie comic publisher of Boneyard Press in Champaign, Illinois, to the release of his brand new horror film The Garbage Man.
Also, in this first issue made available in print, we feature music reviews and a profile of Rockford punk band The Proles! alongside art and photography by artists such as Kieran McGonnell, Jane Linders, and Jennica Abrams.
But that’s not all. Mark Polege takes us to the heart of the Middle American tax revolt in his photo essay on the St. Louis Tea Party of 2009, while from across the Atlantic Ocean Lino Valentim brings us another hard hitting condemnation of global corporatism in his story “Blood Brothers.”

Plastic Irrigation Trays Make The Most of Dew and Weeding Obsolete.

They don't look pretty, and not what you'd imagine when you skip through an apple orchard but new plastic irrigation trays make the most out of limited water resources. We've already posted on fog and dew collectors. Here's something new: The company Tal Ya - for God's dew in Hebrew – have devised a simple and why-didn't-I-think-of-that solution for collecting dew.   More...

Goldman Sachs: The Fourth Branch of the U.S. Government.

Shouldn’t we have a Financial Branch of government? A group of fiscal experts entirely devoted to keeping the US’s fiscal house in order? Well, we actually do, but instead of installing a branch of smart, genuine financiers interested in benefiting the American people, we installed a bunch of greedy crooks intent on stealing as much of the public’s money as possible with no consequences what so ever.  More...

Oregon Resoundingly Passes Hemp Bill.

Monday afternoon, on a resounding 46-11 vote, the Oregon House passed a bill clearing the way for licensing industrial hemp farming in the state. Barring a highly unusual veto of a bi-partisan bill by Governor Kulongoski (D), Oregon will become the 17th state overall to pass pro-hemp legislation - the sixth this year. Oregon's own Living Harvest (hemp milk, ice cream, and oil) this month was named the third fastest growing Oregon company..  More...

Confidential DoD memo outlines problems for wounded troops.

While the military has instituted dozens of programs to help troubled soldiers with post traumatic stress, brain injuries, and other problems, a number of troops at Fort Hood, Texas, have privately told the nation’s top military officer they feel they are treated poorly because they are wounded, ill or injured. “The wounded expressed concern that, at Fort Hood, they were stigmatized and treated as lesser Soldiers for being wounded, ill, or injured,” Mullen said in the memo.  More...

America Closing Her Door to Freedom.

At 47, I lament how today’s   America    is far less free than the country of my youth.  We so feared a Stalin or Hitler that we ignored endless assaults on our liberty by idealistic home-grown statists and the seductive narcotic of ever more government goodies buying our acquiescence.  More...
